Clive Elliott is an exceptional martial artist and one of the very few people who is qualified to teach Bill Underwood's original Defendo system. I trained Clive in the same Defendo that Bill taught me, and have had the privilege of learning Defendo Concepts from Clive and teaching seminars with him in Canada and the UK. Clive's Defendo is the real deal and he has my full support!

Bill Underwood has created a simple but very effective way to defend yourself. Whether you are a martial artist of 20 years or a complete
novice, Defendo can be used effectively within a very short period of time. With Clive Elliott heading up Defendo UK, I'm sure it will go a long way. It is a pleasure for me to learn Defendo and to train with such a knowledgable martial artist.

In 2003 I began training with Clive. I travelled 300 miles as I had read an article on Clive and thought it would be worth making the journey to meet a martial artist on my wave length. I was not disappointed. What makes Clive a good martial artist is his thirst for knowledge. Too many instructors stop learning once they have reached a certain level, Clive however still actively seeks instructors to learn from, implementing anything that impresses him into his own training. He growing thirst is only surpassed by his ability to teach. I have been training since I was 4, I have met many instructors who believe there own hype and even more who can not back the hype up. Clive is down to earth does not blow his own trumpet and is humble in his knowledge. He always gives credit to those who have taught him and the people around him who offer him support. I am writing this because Clive has asked me for a quote. To be honest a quote is hard to do. Before I met Clive I was ready to quit my training. Now 4 years later I have travelled the 300 miles many times, I have grown as a martial artist and am now proud to be a instructor in Defendo under Clive. He has helped me to discover my martial arts path and although we do not train in exactly the same things he has guided me further in my journey. If I had to sum it up in a few words I would simply say. "Clive Elliott is a gifted and excellent instructor but most of all an honest martial artist. I would recommend meeting and training with him to anyone (and do.) His instructional style put the fire into my eyes and gave me a kick in the right direction.

I know you hear it, well, read it, every day, but thank you again. The seminar we attended was fantastic.
Your teaching style is informal and very easy to follow with great explanations’ of how and why the system works. We had lots of support from Karen and the rest of the group and came away with confidence. The atmosphere at the seminar was friendly and supportive, we was welcomed into the group as if we had been friends for years.
Defendo was easy to understand, very effective and above all fun. It feels very natural to use even with my disability. We are both looking forward to the next seminar, thank you again for everything

I stumbled into Defendo wondering whether a locking system would work within my striking based martial art. What i discovered quickly was that Defendo is like a small tool box which can easily be added to my (any) martial arts arsenal. It is perfect for women (as pain is a great equaliser) and can be learnt quickly, even if you do not have any prior martial arts training. Defendo opened my eyes to what works and what does not unlike many of the other things I have tried and I continue to be impressed every time I train in it.
